Camp Highland's facilities
Camp Highland Outdoor Science School is nestled on 900 private acres in the chaparral foothills near peaceful Cherry Valley, California. At an elevation of 3100 Feet, we are surrounded by San Jacinto and San Gorgonio, the two highest mountains in Southern California. Camp Highland Outdoor Science School is located at Highland Springs Resort, a California Historic Landmark.
Cabins
Students spend their nights in one of our comfortable cabins. Each cabin has a heater/air conditioner and holds between 15 to 20 students, though we typically use them for 10-15 students. One of our instructors stays in each cabin and facilitates a warm, supportive environment. Students will play games, create arts and crafts projects, and participate in night activities with their cabin group.
Classrooms
During the day, students spend their time in our beautiful classrooms. All of our classrooms are furnished with natural grass floors, large skylights, natural wood finishing, and large windows with amazing views. Ahh... the advantages of learning outside!
Trails
We have miles and miles of incredible hiking trails at our disposal. The diversity of our "backcountry" is amazing. From the plush, green riparian ecosystem of Smith Creek to the dry chaparral of our hills to our 1000 year-old oak tree, there are endless opportunities to explore in our backyard.
Dining Hall
One of the luxuries of being located at a resort is the food! The same kitchen staff that prepares and serves deluxe meals for professional groups on the weekends helps us during the week. We eat buffet-style in the resort's dining facilities, and eat nutrious, balanced meals.
